Solar market potential
|
As far as the use of solar energy is concerned, Europe
is on the right path. And the prospects for the future are good
throughout Europe. With 410.5 MWp installed during the year 2004,
total capacity is now established at more than 1 GWp, i.e. 69.2% growth
with
respect to 2003.
One reason for this is finite fossil fuels, while
energy demand worldwide continues to rise. The rising cost of fossil fuels present
a compelling reason for looking at economic ecological alternatives.
A study carried out by Ecostream´s sister company
Ecofys shows that the potential area for generating solar energy on buildings
in Germany is three times as large as it was 10 years ago (2,344 million m2).
This would be enough to generate 40 gigawatts continuous - almost half of current
power station output in Germany.
And that is only for Germany.
There's plenty of work for us to do!
