Dutch Eneco acquires Ecostream Belgium

Ecostream to continue its successful business in the Belgian solar market 

Rotterdam/Maldegem, 16 November 2009. The Dutch Eneco Holding N.V. acquires the activities of solar energy company Ecostream Belgium. Ecostream Belgium was part of Econcern, of which Eneco already acquired large parts after the bankruptcy of this parent company in June. The activities of Ecostream Belgium in the solar energy market will be taken over by the new company Ecostream NV. As the acquisition by Eneco puts Ecostream NV in an excellent position to further expand its already successful solar energy business, there will be no job losses.  

Focus on renewable energy sources

Eneco is one of the leading players in the Dutch energy market. It applies an integrated distribution strategy and specialises in the production, transmission, trading, supply and metering of energy (electricity, gas and heat) and related products and services. Eneco is making a transition to becoming a sustainable energy supplier in the North West European market and will, also through its Belgian office, continue to make substantial investments in the area of renewable energy in the coming years.

In this context, the acquisition of Ecostream Belgium is a strategically important step, since it expands Eneco's capacity in the solar energy sector. The solar business activities will be continued by the new company Ecostream NV, which is a 100% subsidiary of Eneco.
