Greenpeace again declared Eneco the cleanest energy producer of the Netherlands
Rotterdam, 22 October 2009. Energy company Eneco is pleased that, for the second year in a row, Greenpeace declared Eneco the cleanest energy producer of the Netherlands. The ranking that environmental organisation Greenpeace publicised today shows that Eneco is the cleanest energy producer of the Netherlands. “We are pleased with this recognition of Eneco’s sustainability strategy”, says Jeroen Overgoor, communication director at Eneco. “With its sustainability strategy, Eneco distinguishes itself from other electricity producers. That is often difficult to demonstrate, because everyone claims the concept of sustainability in one way or the other. That is why it is very gratifying that a critical and independent party such as Greenpeace acknowledges our transition to completely sustainable energy production.” “Eneco deliberately invests in the generation of electricity from renewable resources such as wind and solar power and biomass. This is combined with electricity generated by high-efficiency gas plants, in order to be able to meet the demand of our customers in the most sustainable manner and under any conditions. We view gas as the fuel with the least environmental impact during the transition period to entirely sustainable production.” At present, already one third of its customers purchase Eneco’s sustainably generated electricity brands Eneco Ecostroom® and Eneco Windstroom® Greenpeace’s ranking shows the contribution of the various energy companies to the transition to clean energy. Companies that focus on renewable energy from solar systems, wind parks and hydropower and sustainable biomass came out best. The companies were also evaluated with regard to sustainable investments, generation capacity, electricity sales in the Netherlands and customer support. |
